Artist's Description

Staghorn sumac is an ornamental plant that grows along paths, trails in forests and near water. In New England, they turn color in late summer. Here is one I took in the middle of August along a bike path. Predominantly green, they are changing color as the nights and mornings grow cooler.

Upon googling staghorn sumac, I read that "the fruit of sumacs can be collected, soaked and washed in cold water, strained, sweetened and made into a pink lemonade.

The leaves and berries of staghorn sumac have been mixed with tobacco and other herbs and smoked by Native American tribes. This practice continues to a small degree to this day."

About Janice Drew

Janice Drew

A life-long resident of Plymouth, Massachusetts, I have been pursuing my passion for landscape photography ever since retiring. Much of my work is captured primarily in and around my historic hometown and nearby areas on the South Shore of Massachusetts. My photography represents how I view the world. I am drawn to beauty in simplicity. It is where I find the most peace. It is my hope that my photos will evoke same emotions within the viewers. Thank you for taking the time to look and comment. I hope you like my pictures as much as I enjoy photography. PLEASE NOTE: The FineArtAmerica watermark does NOT appear on sold images.
