Description
Cole's Hill in Plymouth, Massachusetts was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1960. Sitting on top of the hill is this large monument (sarcophagus) containing the remains of Pilgrims who succumbed during the first winter in 1620-21.
To hide their losses, it is said the bodies were buried in unmarked graves on the hill. In 1921, some of the remains of persons originally buried on that hill were collected into the sarcophagus. Their names are engraved on the tomb.
