Description
Early June, I discovered this flowering shrub planted in the gardens outside the Plimoth Plantation gift shops on the waterfront in Plymouth, MA. I had difficulty with plant identification. Months later, I encountered of the workers in the gift shop. She told me this was "False Indigo".
Researching more, I found out that Blue False Indigo, or Baptisia australis, is a native American beauty. Europeans would pay Americans to grow it, for the dye they made from the blue flowers. That's why it's referred to as False Indigo.
